Purposes for a Personalized Stepping Stone

As I wrote in my article My Stepping Stone Cottage Business, the popular trend these days is to create personalized stepping stones for pathways, front yards, gardens, or other walkways. These stepping stones can have anything a person wants to put on them from family crests, favorite pictures, or designs. These stepping stones give the home a more artistic feel and also make the home seem more individualized. A personalized stepping stone can be made by hand or ordered from companies online, garden shops, or local flea markets.

I have sold many personalized stepping stones as house warming gifts for those who have just moved into a new home or who are undertaking a new landscaping project. One of my customers’ favorite personalized stepping stone, is a stone in which I add rustic tin plaques. I apply pet and family names, or little sayings on the plaques using a permanent marker, then I spray the plaques with a clear acrylic spray. I also paint the personalized stepping stones with specified colors. For instance, I have a beautiful hummingbird mold with flowers, the most popular color for the flowers is yellow.

Pet lovers truly enjoy my pet stones. I take a plain stone, paint a doghouse on the front, then attach a dog bone on the bottom with heavy duty glue. (the dog bone is also made from a mold and painted) Then I add their pet’s name. This may sound a little morbid but we all love are pets and when they pass we want them to have a nice little marker as a remembrance. I have made many little markers for my customers over the last two years.

Football fans love my personalized football. I found a football shaped snack tray to use as a mold. I paint it the color of their favorite football team, professional or local, then add my personalized tin plaque. Many of my customers use them as welcome signs or on the patio by their grilling stations.

As I have said over and over, let your creative mind flow, you never know what a little piece of plastic, some cement and paint can create.
